Oral interaction and the Internet
Before you start, take a look at the objectives. We also recommended you read the comments, which focus on didactical issues. |
| In interactive activities the language learner acts alternatively as speaker and listener with one or more interlocutors so as to construct conjointly, through the negotiation of meaning following the co-operative principle, conversational discourse. Reception and production strategies are employed constantly during interaction. There are also types of cognitive and collaborative strategies (also called discourse strategies and co-operation strategies) implemented when managing co-operation and interaction. The strategies include turntaking and turngiving, framing the issue and establishing a line of approach, proposing and evaluating solutions, recapping and summarising and mediating in a conflict.
Examples of interactive activities include: transactions, casual conversation, informal / formal discussion, interviews etc.

Dynamic websites enable learners to work with authentic texts.
In real life, users go to these websites because they want to obtain specific information on different goods and services. As the main function of dynamic websites is to provide quick and simple access to information, they need to be user-friendly. Therefore, they have the following characteristics:
simplified language in terms of structure and lexicon,
well structured information, and
images support or replace text wherever this is an advantage for the user: Hence, there is no need for the teacher to simplify or modify language content for didactic purposes. This means, the language learner is working in the same environment as the native speaker. |
