Comprehension is only possible if knowledge is available at three levels: of the world, the text, linguistics.
The Internet can provide additional information based on existing knowledge (e.g. a waffle recipe in a known language). The Internet also helps the learner to understand unknown words (e.g. dictionaries, images, illustrated websites...).
Using the Internet, the teacher can choose between:
- finding interesting links in advance and handing them out to learners to use and access e.g. online dictionaries, or
- asking the learner to find the resources himself before encouraging him to use these resources in a new/unknown situation. In this case, the learner should be assisted in this task.
You can find a page with a photo of the recipe by giving a few of the ingredients or significant verb forms in Advanced Image Search of the Google Image Search.
